Ashera moved closer to the fire, still staring at the wolf in admiration. She heard a noise in the bushes and turned to look, but saw nothing. Figuring it was her imagination she settled tentatively on the ground a little ways away from the others.

Jocasta looked around the fire.

"That's a no on the tent, then? I won't bother putting it up if no one else wants it."

Myrddin really wanted to sleep in the tent, but had no interest in trying to communicate with Jocasta again, so he kept it to himself. Instead he distracted himself by stroking Asher's head and back, giving him a friendly scritch behind the ears from time to time.

At the noise in the bushes, Asher's head popped up, and he stared reward the source of the sound.

Noticing the wolf's sudden movement, Galileo followed his companion's game to the underbrush.

Ashera jumped when the wolf did and looked up at Galileo. Clearly it was not her imagination. Suddenly, a man jumped out of the bushes near Galileo and Asher, brandishing a sword. "Give me the healer and I won't harm you!" He called. With everyone's attention on him, another man snuck out of the woods opposite and made a grab for Ashera, also carrying a sword.

Ajax grabbed his hunting knife from his belt, and bolted at full speed to intercept the attacker farthest from Galileo and the wolf. It looked like concealing his abilities may have paid off.

Myrddin, who followed the wolf's gaze when it raised its head, threw himself away from the attacker, letting out a small cry as he flung his hands over his head.

Galileo whipped into a crouch and pulled a knife from his belt,  which he promptly buried in the first man's shoulder with a quick throw.  Grabbing a short sword from the gear beside him, he moved toward Ashera in a defensive stance,  senses alert for the sounds of any other men who might be out there.
(this all happened a little slower than Ajax's reaction, though.)

Ajax, having capitalized on the surprise his speed created, used the sudden calm to recover from the dizziness of his sudden movement.

Ashera, having been pushed to the ground in the struggle, looked up at Myrddin and gasped. In his flailing, it appeared as though he had obtained a graze on his left arm from the attacker's sword.

Asher,  who had used the confusion around the fire to sneak up behind the attackers,  lept for the one with the knife in his shoulder and got him by the sword arm.  Not enough to be seriously damaging,  but certainly enough to be painful.  He took the arm and shook it vigorously until the man dropped the sword,  then quickly grabbed the hilt of the fallen weapon in his mouth and scampered over to Galileo.

Galileo took the other blade and slowly approached the wounded man.  "You'll stay right where you are, if you want to keep your head on your shoulders." He spared a quick glance at Ajax to make sure he had the other man under control.

Myrddin was staring at his arm in complete disregard to the events taking place around him. "I'm bleeding." He said, a mixture of horror and disbelief in his voice. He was hyperventilating as his vocalisations descended into incoherent blabbering.

Having recovered from the bout of dizziness, Ajax looked at his fallen prey. "Looks dead," he announced. Then he decided to be cautious, and grabbed the man's sword. After he asked, "should I make sure?"

After convincing her horse that no, it did not need to charge the attackers and stamp them to death, since that would have the unfortunate side effect of stamping Myrddin to death as well, Jocasta simply drew her sword and scanned the trees for other attackers. Once the fighting ended and she was satisfied that no more enemies were forthcoming, she attended to the others in time to hear Ajax's remark.

"Well, if he's dead, then the spirit of life and death has been freed and we can all go home," Jocasta snarked, "But he probably won't be any trouble either way. Anyone hurt besides the kid?"

Ashera pushed herself to her feet and placed a small glowing hand over the wound on Myrddin's arm. Her hand glowed a little brighter for a moment then faded away again to her normal nightime glow. Pulling her hand away, those standing close could see no trace that there had even been a wound, aside from the blood soaked sleeve. Ashera sat back down on the ground and stared at them men who had attacked them. Why her? What did they want with her?

The now unarmed man put up his one good hand in surrender. The other man groaned in pain, remaining only semi-conscious.

"Good man." said Galileo.  "Now,  you show yourself to be found of living.  In order to continue this,  you are going to answer a few questions.  Where did you come from,  who sent you,  and why did they want the girl.  Answer in that order and with great clarity,  if you would be so kind."

Ajax thought for a moment about what would happen if he put the sword through the groaning man's skull, and eventually decided not to; Then Ajax walked to Myrddin to hand him the sword. Deciding that he didn't need to be included in the interrogation, Ajax laid down with his back to the fire and slept.

Myrddin's head was still spinning from the experience of getting his arm sliced open, and then promptly getting it healed when Ajax handed him the sword. "Eh?" He said, confusedly getting to his feet, "Uh... What am I supposed to do with this?"

The man started to give an answer, then looked at his shulder. Seeing the blood oozing out of his would, he fainted.

Jocasta gave Myrddin an exasperated look.

"Aim the pointy end at the enemy and hope they don't attack you. Shouldn't be too hard even for you at this point, with both enemies passed out."

She crossed the clearing to where the man who had just fainted lay. Pulling out her dagger, she ripped away his shirt around the shoulder wound to examine it.

"Looks not too bad. Glow-girl, are you up for another healing or should I cauterize this? I don't want him to bleed out when we need answers."

Ashera inched closer and tried to see the wound from several feet away. It was clear that she was reluctant to get too close. When the man let out a groan she jumped back, her eyes going round.

"Cauterize?!" Myrddin said, snapping to attention. "At the rate his blood's flowing out, don't risk it. He's in no danger of exsanguinating, and he'd probably be of no help after that pain. The wound is above his heart, and it's not too bad; just staunch the bleeding with a clean rag."

"Yes, because you can see exactly how much blood is flowing from across the clearing," snapped Jocasta, "I'm not ruling out cauterization yet because I don't know why he fainted and I don't know that I can count on him sitting there and letting me stitch him up. You want to be useful, there's a first aid kit in one of my packs."

"He didn't faint from blood loss." Myrddin grumbled, heading over to get the kit, "Not yet. If an artery had been struck, then I would be able to tell from across the clearing. He probably just fainted from the shock. He's not going to die no matter what we do, so we might as well not increase the risk of infection by cauterizing the wound." When he had gathered the kit and reached the unconscious figure on the ground he kneeled down and peeled away the man's shirt. "Sit this guy up a little, would you?"

Ashera inched closer, taking a look at the wound and making calculations in her head. After a moment she reached into a small bag on her belt and pulled out a few leaves and handed them to Myrrdin to use on the wound. She then moved to look at the bite mark from the wolf. Placing both hands over the bite, she closed her eyes. A minute later she pulled away, the wound gone.
