HEROism

Gungnir watched the goings on with mild disinterest.  She was hoping things would get under way fairly quickly,  as her hero garb didn't have much pocket space for anything more than the essentials.  My utility belt needs a gameboy, she decided.

Mik finally arrived at the entrance and made himself visible.

Not wanting to be taken by surprise for a third time, Sigrun was gazing in the direction of the viewscreen while she waited, and jumped a little when the figure of Red Mirage suddenly appeared onscreen. "Alright, that makes everyone." She said to herself as she pressed the button to open the trapdoor for the last arrival.

"Things have been pretty quiet lately," Kay said in response to Sigrun's question, "Was close to an accident on the freeway and ripped a car apart so the paramedics could get to the guy. Spoke at a con. Got a new motorcycle helmet. Nothing major."

"Oh yeah, I forgot you're a public hero." Sigrun replied to Kay. "Spoke at a con." She shook her head, "You're very brave; I could never do that."

Mik'pecroz entered.

"Eh, public isn't quite the right word," Kay said, "Far as I know, no one knows my legal name. It's just that my alias is really well known."

"Hi, Red" Sigrun said to Mik, "Cardinal is just in the hideout proper. Thanks for coming. Now that we're all here, let's head in." She turned back to Kay as she lead the group down the passage, "Yeah, but still, speaking at conventions, running your own social media pages, signing autographs." She shuddered, "I don't think I could do all that. I'm awkward enough about the Facebook fan page somebody started up last year. No thanks, give me my lab any day"

"Thank you for having me," Mik replied. "Who else is here?"

"Um, well, as I said, Cardinal is already further in. "Sigrun replied, "beyond that, you can see Kay, and in case you haven't met her before, this is Gungnir." She said, gesturing towards the hero.

Mik introduced himself, "Red Mirage, invisibility."

Cardinal popped her head out when she heard voices and smiled at them. She tucked her notebook away after taking one more puzzled look at her design.
"It should have worked..." she mumbled to herself.

Gungnir had been zoning out and started at the mention of her name. "What? Yes hi." She said to Red, all of the words jumbled unto one another. She gave her head a little shake to get herself rooted back in reality. "Well then. I guess that makes all of us, no?" She was glad things finally looked like they were getting under way.

"Indeed, it does." Sigrun said, leading the group to the table she had set up in the main area of her hideout. It was a modest location with several rooms accessible from the main area in which the group was currently located. Most of the doors were closed, but a flight of steps leading even further underground could be seen off to the side. The lighting was managed by several overhead lights that gave the room a warm, if slightly closed-in feeling. "Now if you'll all just have a seat, I can explain just why I've asked you here today." She said, gesturing towards the chairs pushed in under the table.

Gungnir took the seat closest to what seemed to be the head of the table, fairly close to where she assumed Sigrun would be. She sat at tentatively, waiting for the others to settle.

Kay took the seat across from Gungnir, removing her jacket and slinging it across the back of the chair.

"I have to say I'm curious why you've called me up twice now."

Cardinal took a seat once more and waited.

"Twice?" Sigrun said, her train of thought interrupted by Kay's comment. "This is the first time I've ever contacted any of you except Gungnir."

Kay raised her eyebrows.

"Oh, so this isn't on behalf of HERO? Interesting. Go on."

"Uh, no, it's not." Sigrun said, "I've asked you all here because, with the exception of Gungnir, we all worked together just a few months ago, and we did well. So well, in fact, that it got me thinking about how much this city could benefit from a permanent, official team of heroes, instead of the slapdash collections H.E.R.O. throws together whenever the need is too great. What's more, I thought it'd be good if we were that team." Sigrun looked expectantly around the room. "It makes sense, when you think about it. We've got pretty much every skill set we need, and we already know we can work together, and I can personally vouch for Gungnir's ability to work with everyone else. I've already gone to H.E.R.O. to set up the registration of this group, and they're willing to make everything official if everyone signs on. So... what do you say? I know it's a lot to ask, but we could really do some good together."

Gungnir mulled the idea over for a bit. There was a bit of hesitation from her, as she had only worked with Sigrun before. They seemed like a decent bunch of people, and she's herd a bit about what they all could do. Solo work was good only to a point, especially with a fairly one track power such as hers. Having the others to round things out would be a definite plus.
"I'm in." said Gungnir.

Kay's eyebrows raised even further.

"You sure you want to work with a publicity-obsessed vigilante? Small "v", of course."

Cardinal gave a shrug and said, "As long as I get time to work on designs...I've got a bunch of ideas right now, and I really want to keep working on them..."

"Cardinal, my intention was to have you work more behind the scenes anyway. No offense, but I have reservations about putting a kid into the field." Sigrun said, "Kay, all I know is when we worked together before, the outcome was phenomenal. Not a single casualty. Alone, I don't think any one of us could have pulled that off. This city needs a group that can do what we did. And Gungnir," she said, turning to the first to speak, "thank you."

Cardinal frowned and crossed her arms. In a hurt tone she said, "I'm not a little kid, I can handle anything the rest of you can handle."
